Good Old BackTracking

It’s been a while that I’ve used BT5, for various reasons I was integrating everything in the Mac OS X. but eventually I got to this conclusion that it’s better to have the good old hacking package in the virtual machine than to screw up all the normal work with the hacking stuff… not SAFE.

As usual I encountered some errors that the error and the solution is here for my further access or if I’d be able to help anyone out there I’d be happy to have a better karma point in the future. lol

With the usage of every Apt-get update Apt-get install … dpkg -i , etc this error was shown:

Setting up se-toolkit (4.2.1-bt0) …
svn: OPTIONS of ‘’: could not connect to server (
dpkg: error processing se-toolkit (–configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Setting up w3af (1.2-bt2) …
tar: pybloomfiltermmap-0.2.0.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
/var/lib/dpkg/info/w3af.postinst: line 4: cd: pybloomfiltermmap-0.2.0: No such file or directory
python: can’t open file ‘’: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
svn: Repository moved permanently to ‘’; please relocate
dpkg: error processing w3af (–configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Apparently SE-toolkit and w3af problem. I packaged the solution in the postinst file of the w3af for easier implementation.

vim or nano or any text editor that you use : /var/lib/dpkg/info/w3af.postinst

and replace everything that there is with this: (btw this solution is for any version till this date: October 13, 2013 on BT5 rc3)

cd /tmp/
wget –no-check-certificate
tar zxpf pybloomfiltermmap-0.2.0.tar.gz
cd pybloomfiltermmap-0.2.0
python install
cd ..
rm -rf pybloomfiltermmap-0.2.0*
cd /pentest/web/
svn co w3af

for se-toolkit error open up : var/lib/dpkg/info/se-toolkit.postinst

rm -rf /pentest/exploits/set/ 2> /dev/null
cd /pentest/exploits/
svn co set/

Just a short explanation of these solutions, both se-toolkit and w3af have changed their repositories so I changed the repo url in the postinst files. also there was a package missing (pybloomfiltermmap-0.2.0.tar.gz:) that I added the required scripts to w3af.postinst file to automate things

now run this in sudo (DUH!) and you’re done, play safe!
